A lo largo de los a\u00f1os, Nicholas Feliz, leyenda de DREAM, ha desempe\u00f1ado diversas funciones en la organizaci\u00f3n. Tras finalizar su participaci\u00f3n en el programa en 2016, form\u00f3 parte del equipo de programaci\u00f3n de la escuela secundaria, fue profesor sustituto permanente en la escuela secundaria DREAM Mott Haven y entrenador asistente de f\u00fatbol americano sin contacto. Si bien todas estas experiencias fueron sumamente valiosas y memorables, ninguna fue tan transformadora para \u00e9l como su participaci\u00f3n como becario docente de DREAM durante el a\u00f1o escolar 2022-23, un rol que ahora le ha brindado a \u00e9l y a otros tres becarios de la primera promoci\u00f3n de DREAM un puesto de profesor a tiempo completo.<\/p>\n

\u201cMe cambi\u00f3 por dentro\u201d, dice Nick, quien pas\u00f3 su a\u00f1o de beca ense\u00f1ando estudios sociales en una escuela secundaria de Mott Haven. \u201cEstar frente a esos estudiantes y saber que pod\u00eda ense\u00f1arles algo, influir en lo que aprend\u00edan, me hizo madurar como persona\u201d.\u201d<\/p>\n

Lanzado en 2022, el Programa de Becas de Ense\u00f1anza DREAM es una oportunidad remunerada de un a\u00f1o a tiempo completo que permite a los miembros del programa DREAM Legends y al personal a tiempo parcial convertirse en docentes a tiempo completo. El a\u00f1o pasado, los becarios trabajaron en aulas de toda la red de escuelas de DREAM. Bajo la gu\u00eda de profesores mentores, recibieron retroalimentaci\u00f3n y capacitaci\u00f3n peri\u00f3dicas, a la vez que desarrollaban las habilidades necesarias para gestionar un aula, dirigir la ense\u00f1anza e involucrar de manera significativa a estudiantes y familias.<\/p>\n

\u201cMi profesor mentor, Antoine Boardraye, me ayud\u00f3 much\u00edsimo, y me gust\u00f3 que fuera un proceso gradual\u201d, dice Nick. \u201cMe permiti\u00f3 observarlo. Luego, poco a poco, me involucr\u00e9 m\u00e1s en la clase y empec\u00e9 a dirigir secciones. Hacia el final del a\u00f1o, yo era quien dirig\u00eda todo y el contenido\u201d.\u201d<\/p>\n

Nicholas Feliz, profesor de estudios sociales en la escuela secundaria DREAM Mott Haven y becario docente del programa DREAM 2022-23.<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Gracias a una generosa beca de DREAM, los becarios de ense\u00f1anza tambi\u00e9n trabajan para obtener la certificaci\u00f3n docente del estado de Nueva York y una maestr\u00eda en ense\u00f1anza de la Relay Graduate School of Education. Nick afirma que estos estudios, junto con su aprendizaje pr\u00e1ctico en el aula, han fortalecido su confianza como docente.<\/p>\n

\u201cCuando eres profesor asociado, incluso los ni\u00f1os te ven crecer\u201d, a\u00f1ade. \u201cAlgunos ni\u00f1os se me acercaban y me dec\u00edan: \u2018\u00a1Guau, has mejorado mucho en clase!\u2019. Nick, que ahora trabaja a tiempo completo como profesor de estudios sociales en la escuela secundaria DREAM Mott Haven, es uno de los cuatro becarios inaugurales que asumen un puesto a tiempo completo dentro de la red. Los otros son Kim Crawford (escuela primaria DREAM Mott Haven), Jenia Reyes (escuela primaria DREAM East Harlem) y Matthew Sierra (escuela preparatoria DREAM Charter).
