Alicia Caldwell es considerada la estudiante a la que todos acuden en la escuela preparatoria DREAM Charter: una valiosa colaboradora en iniciativas escolares y una l\u00edder dentro del centro. Solo este a\u00f1o, ayud\u00f3 a planificar y presentar la Celebraci\u00f3n de la Excelencia Afroamericana de DCHS, as\u00ed como el Panel de Orientaci\u00f3n Universitaria y Profesional de la escuela con UberEats. Con el sue\u00f1o de trabajar en la retransmisi\u00f3n deportiva, Alicia fue la encargada del equipo masculino de baloncesto, y sus profesores la elogian por asegurarse siempre de que sus compa\u00f1eros se sientan valorados y escuchados.<\/p>\n

\u201cSoy muy sensible, pero estoy en sinton\u00eda con qui\u00e9n soy\u201d, dice. \u201cNo tengo miedo de hablar de cosas que me importan y de defender a mi comunidad\u201d.\u201d<\/p>\n

Al pensar en sus planes universitarios, Alicia admite que asistir a una universidad hist\u00f3ricamente negra no estaba entre sus opciones. Pero Briana Avery, directora de programas universitarios de DREAM, pens\u00f3 que ser\u00eda una buena opci\u00f3n y anim\u00f3 a Alicia a solicitar la beca Gray de la UNCF en la ciudad de Nueva York, que otorga 1450 000 d\u00f3lares anuales para la universidad hist\u00f3ricamente negra de su elecci\u00f3n. Tras regresar de las vacaciones de invierno, ambas trabajaron juntas para completar la solicitud, ajustando los documentos y decidiendo qu\u00e9 universidad hist\u00f3ricamente negra ser\u00eda la m\u00e1s adecuada.<\/p>\n

Poco despu\u00e9s, Alicia recibi\u00f3 un mensaje en may\u00fasculas de Avery pidi\u00e9ndole que revisara su correo electr\u00f3nico. Al hacerlo, recibi\u00f3 la noticia que le cambiar\u00eda la vida: hab\u00eda obtenido la Beca Gray, y su universidad estar\u00eda totalmente financiada. Adem\u00e1s, era una de las solo 10 estudiantes de toda la ciudad (\u00a1y una de las dos de DCHS!) que hab\u00edan recibido este honor. \u201cSal\u00ed corriendo de la cafeter\u00eda\u201d, recuerda Alicia. \u201cLa Sra. Avery me estaba esperando. Fue un momento muy emotivo\u201d.\u201d<\/p>\n

Ahora, rumbo a la Universidad Clark Atlanta, Alicia est\u00e1 entusiasmada por comenzar su andadura profesional en la din\u00e1mica industria deportiva de Atlanta, as\u00ed como por integrarse en la comunidad del campus de su nueva universidad, tal como lo hizo en DREAM.<\/p>\n
