Want to know if you are eligible to vote?
To register to vote in New York, you must:
- Be a United States citizen;
- Be at least 18 years old (you may pre-register at 16 or 17 but cannot vote until you are 18);
- A resident* of this State and the county (New York or Bronx), city, or village for at least 30 days before the election;
- Not be in prison for a felony conviction;
- Not be adjudged mentally incompetent by a court; and
- And not claim the right to vote elsewhere.
*Current address does mean permanent residence. Even if you are in temporary housing, you have the right to vote.
Not eligible to vote?
There are still ways to make your voice heard:
- Share voter registration information, early voting deadlines, and Election Day information like polling locations on your social media.
- Ask your friends to create their voting plan how, when, and where) because making a plan can increase voter turnout by as much as 9%
- Encourage your friends and family to vote by reminding them of the importance of voting
