Volunteer
con sueño

In 1991, it was volunteers who transformed an abandoned lot into our Field of Dreams. Today, volunteers still play an integral role in our most important work, helping youth in the classroom and on the ballfield so that they can reach their full potential.

“When I arrive at DREAM each week, the spirit and optimism in the air excites me for the future. One homework problem at a time, I see the students’ confidence grow. The community at DREAM is contagious and as a group, anything is possible!”

- Jonathan Ramirez

“I volunteer to give back to my community and to create opportunities for our scholars to see people of color from their neighborhoods who are educated and committed to extinguishing marginalization. Through volunteering, I hope to empower our youth with a sense of agency so that they become advocates for themselves and others.”

- Sadie Mencia

Story spotlight

Meet George, a softball coach who’s been showing up for our kids for over a decade.

George Carrington has been coaching at DREAM for more than a decade, and each year he returns with the same energy as day one. He has a passion for youth development and has come to use baseball and softball as his vehicle to engage with young people. George teaches his players to think outside the box and encourages them to always push for their best. But the reason George comes back to the Field of Dreams year after year is because he knows he gets just as much out of volunteering as he puts into it. His commitment to the youth of this community has been an inspiration to every other volunteer that’s crossed his path, and we feel so lucky to have him on our team.
